What are round steel chains?

Round steel chains are oval metal rings made of round steel that are connected to each other to form a link chain. Unalloyed, alloyed or stainless steels are used for their manufacture. These steel chains are available in various wire thicknesses and designs. The high strength of the steel ensures a high load-bearing capacity and makes them ideal for lifting and moving loads. They are used in many areas, for example in conveyor technology, mechanical engineering, agriculture and the construction industry. Surface treatments such as hot-dip galvanizing ensure that they are optimally adapted to the respective operating conditions.

Where can I buy round steel chains?

You can buy these chains from distributors or directly from manufacturers. While distributors generally offer a wider range of different chain standards and accessories, customers benefit from a particularly large selection of variants, customized special designs and technical advice when purchasing from manufacturers. We supply both dealers and end customers and manufacture round steel chains according to different standards, materials and requirements. This means you get the right chain, regardless of how you place your order.

Who are the manufacturers of round steel chains?

There are about a dozen manufacturers of such chains in Germany. Each manufacturer usually specializes in specific chain standards, nominal sizes and materials. It is therefore advisable to check whether the respective manufacturer offers the required chain standard before making an enquiry. We manufacture most of the common chain standards ourselves in almost all available wire thicknesses. Short delivery times, direct communication channels and experienced employees ensure a flawless manufacturing process.

What wire thickness is suitable for chain manufacturing?

The choice of the appropriate wire thickness depends on the area of application and the required load capacity. In practice, wire thicknesses range from a few millimetres to several centimetres, depending on the standard. For light applications, such as in agricultural conveyor technology, smaller wire diameters of 6 mm to 16 mm are sufficient. In areas with high tensile or breaking forces, such as in mechanical engineering or steel construction, significantly thicker wire dimensions are used.

What quality grades are there for round steel chains?

Round steel chains are available in various quality grades, which provide information about their strength, load capacity and intended area of application. Overall, the quality grades range from 2 to 12. The higher the number, the greater the permissible tensile strength of the chain. Hönnetaler Kettenfabrik manufactures round steel chains, chain slings and lifting accessories in quality grades 2 to 10. This reliably covers the requirements of most industrial applications. Each chain is manufactured and tested in accordance with the applicable standards to ensure maximum safety and a long service life in daily use.
